Q1 Does OSR only teach seminars for Windows system software?

That's correct. At OSR, our expertise is in Windows internals: including file systems, drivers, and other kernel mode components... period. Don't waste your time asking us about any user mode application stuff 'cause we can't help. Our knowledge is definitive. Consulting, development, and training services for Windows system software is ALL we do.

Q2 What kind of experience do OSR instructors have?

OSR instructors are developers working on designing and implementing the industry's toughest driver and file system projects. We take our real-world experience and apply it in the classroom. Every one of our instructors has years of experience with Windows internals, learned from the source-code level out.

Q3 What's included in the cost of my OSR Seminar?

Everything at the seminar venue to ensure you'll have a great experience is included. We feed you: While the food varies according to the venue, we always provide continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks galore. The food's usually pretty good, too. For lab seminars, you'll get dedicated use of real-world machines (no cheapo laptops, no junk-box systems). For example, for the WDF and WDM labs, each student gets their own pair of systems to use for labs during the week. You also get an OSR Seminar "Bag-O-Stuff" that includes cool swag, and sometimes (depending on the seminar) even additional readings or useful information. And, of course, with every seminar, you will also go home with a full copy of the seminar handouts.

Q4 How do I register for a seminar? Will I receive confirmation?

There are four easy ways that you can register for an OSR seminar and yes, we absolutely do send confirmation of your seminar registration. You can find all of the registration and confirmation information you're looking for on our seminar registration page.

Q5 So I go to an OSR seminar... then what? What do I walk away with?

In addition to your newfound knowledge, you get numerous benefits from an OSR seminar. First and foremost, we guarantee that you are getting the latest and most applicable knowledge available in the Windows system software industry. OSR seminars are not "thanks for your money, here's some info, have a nice day." For lab seminars, you'll get a book of suggested lab assignments. Every assignment has a sample driver from which to start. The solution is provided for every assignment, with a completed driver provided. We also provide a textual explanation of how we evaluated the problem, and why we chose the particular implementation for the solution. You get all of this on CD.

For all OSR seminars, you'll also have access to the instructor AFTER the seminar is over. Send your instructor questions and he'll actually answer. We KNOW this stuff isn't easy. If it was, more people would be good at it.

You also become part of the Windows driver community. You'll have access to resources you can only begin to imagine. This includes access to free information and utilities online at www.osronline.com, developer newsgroups hosted by OSR, and free articles and a free subscription to the world's most authoritative newsletter on Windows system software, The NT Insider (TM). These are resources you won't get anywhere else in the world.

Q6 Will I write a real driver in the WDM or WDF lab seminar?

What's the point of a hands-on driver lab seminar if you're not going to write drivers? Yes, you will write parts of lots of drivers in this course AND you'll take your source code home with you. Also, because we limit the number of people in our lab seminars, you'll get one-on-one face time with the instructor. You'll go over the labs in detail and discuss what went well, what didn't, and why.

Q7 How do I know which seminar to take?

There are a couple of different ways to determine which seminar to take. The first way is to review the prerequisites for the seminars that we teach. Prerequisites are part of every seminar syllabus. Click here for a list of all OSR seminars and complete descriptions of those seminars, including prerequisites.

If you're still not sure which seminar you should take, call an OSR seminar consultant at +1.603.595.6500. Our consultants will discuss your training and project goals as well as your career goals - along with your background - and help you to determine which of our many seminar offerings best meets your overall needs. If you'd rather email us, be sure to include information about your background and what your goals are for the training.

Q8 Where can I find information on dates and locations for upcoming seminars?

A current public seminar schedule can be found by clicking here. You'll find the dates and locations of all of our upcoming public seminars as well as pricing information.

Q9 What's included in the cost of a private seminar?

When you schedule a private seminar with OSR, you pay one fee. Included in the cost of our private seminars are all the seminar materials (handouts, CDs), shipping costs, customs fees (international seminars only), and instructor travel and expenses. We do everything we can to make it easy for you to provide training to your group.

Q10 Do you teach Windows source code seminars?

Absolutely! OSR's source level offerings are among our most popular private, on-site seminars. Familiarize your group with the source code, learn how source modules interact, learn the key algorithms in the OS, as well as many, many pivotal aspects of the Windows source code. If you really want to understand the source code, don't miss the opportunity to take an OSR source code seminar.

These seminars do require that your company have a valid Windows source code license. Once your company's Windows source code license has been verified with Microsoft, we'll make all the arrangements to come to your company and teach this customized course.

Check out sample topics for the coursehere.

Q11 Do your seminars include information on Microsoft's new Windows Driver Foundation (WDF) kernel mode framework?

Yes, OSR does offer a WDF lab-based seminar.

Q11 What if I don't have the equipment needed to host a seminar at my company?

No problem! An OSR seminar consultant can arrange everything for you. Whether you need equipment or a place to hold your seminar, let the professionals at OSR handle all the details.

Q13 What do you mean when you say you're "developers who teach?"

OSR instructors are driver writers. They are out there every day working on the system software industry's leading edge projects. This allows them to grow their knowledge base and share that knowledge with their students. What might be equally important is that our instructors also just happen to have years of experience teaching people how to write drivers and file systems. No other company in the world brings that kind of real-world development experience to the training room.

Q14 Does OSR customize private, on-site seminars?

Definitely! Every on-site seminar we teach is customized to meet your specific requirements.

Q15 Does OSR offer services other than training?

Of course. OSR is a consultancy made up of practicing developers. We offer consulting and development services from design to complete project development. We also license enabling technology that will help bring your products to market faster. And obviously, we provide training. Without our consulting and development experience, our training would be, well... just your average training session. We think you'll agree that OSR seminars are anything but average. For more information about other OSR services start here.

Q16 Do you offer discounts?

Absolutely! For all public lecture seminars, we offer an early payment discount of $200 off of the seminar base price; just make sure we receive your payment two weeks in advance. We also offer a discount for companies who send multiple students to a public seminar. Email us for more information on OSR seminar discounts.

Q17 How do you create a real development environment for your WDM or WDF driver labs?

For our WDM and WDF kernel mode driver lab seminars, each student has their own development system and their own test system. That's right - you get your own pair of systems so that you can do your labs in a real development environment. AND you get real-time feedback on all of your lab exercises. No other company in the world teaches a hands-on lab seminar this way.

Q18 Does OSR teach seminars outside of the United States?

We sure do. We have literally traveled the globe, teaching public and private seminars in Europe, Asia, Australia and just about any place that you can imagine! (OK, we haven't been to Antarctica but you get the point.) Contact an OSR seminar consultant for more information about OSR's international seminars.

Q19 What do I need to bring with me when I come to an OSR seminar?

It sounds goofy, but you need only to bring yourself. OSR provides all of the seminar materials and equipment that you'll need. You will be provided with a copy of the seminar slides, lab exercises, and any reading material that we think is beneficial for your seminar.

If you're taking a lab seminar, you'll be provided with a real development environment and all the equipment necessary to complete your lab exercises. There's no need to bring your laptop.

You'll also be provided with continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day. So bring yourself and your questions, and let OSR do the rest.

Q20 How can I be noified when new seminar offerings are scheduled?
